Serving up £400 under Quality Moments Matter A much-loved social gathering in has served up a generous slice of funding for our hospices. Held on the first Thursday of every month, the afternoon tea at St David’s church hall, Penrhyn Bay is attended by up to 40 people and provides a social lifeline for many in the community. The popular event which is organised by a group of friends has been running for six years now and at each event they choose a different local charity to donate the profits to. On Thursday 7th November the event raised £200 – but their kind donation will be doubled by the Quality Moments Matter match funding pot and now be worth a brilliant £400. With the friends baking up all the good themselves, attendees are guaranteed a delicious afternoon treat and many people like 99 year-old Betty from the village really enjoy their visits. Betty likes to chat in Welsh at the gatherings and relishes the chance to socialise. 99 year-old Betty won a raffle prize and enjoys her visits to the monthly afternoon tea as a chance to socialise and speak Welsh Anne, one of the organising team said: “It’s a chance to do something nice and give something back to the community. “There are about 12 of us who help organise things and despite a brief pause during Covid have been here every month. “We’re very happy to support Tŷ Gobaith and the wonderful work they do.” Every year in November we run a 36hr fundraising campaign called Quality Moments Matter in which every donation is doubled by funds built-up from generous local businesses – making one donation have twice the impact. The drive runs this year on 17th and 18th November and aims to raise a total of £400,000 to ensure seriously-ill local children and their families can enjoy quality moments and precious memories. Joan, Maureen, Di, Ann, Mandy, Di and Helen from the Penrhyn Bay group have supported us with their popular afternoon tea Beverley Bradley, a fundraiser for the hospice said: “We’re so grateful to the ladies for thinking of us and how wonderful that the total will be doubled under our Quality Moments Matter campaign. Thank you so much.” To find out more about Quality Moments Matter and even get involved yourself, visit www.hopehouse.org.uk/qmm?locale=en Manage Cookie Preferences
