We’re here to provide steady, ongoing support for you and your whole family, so you can enjoy every moment together.

Our Family Support Workers are some of the first people you’ll meet. They listen to what matters most to you, answer questions, help with practical matters, and offer emotional support to parents, siblings, and grandparents.

What is Family Support and what support can we offer?

Our Family Support Workers are here to stand by your side. They work locally with our Community Nurses and will become your main point of contact with the hospice.

Your Family Support Worker will:
  • Spend time to get to know you and complete an “Our Family Needs Assessment” with you, exploring what feels most important to you and the support you need as a family
  • Help you feel settled and informed, arranging first visits and introductions to the hospice, making you feel comfortable and aware of the services we can offer to meet your needs
  • Support siblings through our “ENHANCE” programme, offering one-to-one time and group activities for them to feel included and supported
  • Connect you with the right people, linking you with other hospice support services such as counselling, social work, transition - so
    everything feels joined up
  • Bring families together and invite you to family events and support groups, where you can meet and build connections with other families in similar situations
  • Help create meaningful memories with activities that celebrate your child and your family’s special moments together

How Family Support helps your child

When your whole family is supported, it can make a world of difference to your child.

Your Family Support Worker can help you feel more confident in meeting the needs of your child and can assist you in attending meetings with professionals, so your voice always feels heard.

How Family Support helps your family

Family Support Workers are here for your whole family. They help siblings feel included at school and in daily life, support you as parents, and make sure everyone knows they’re not alone.

Where and when support takes place

Our Family Support Workers can meet you wherever you are most comfortable. This can be:

  • At home
  • At hospital
  • In the community
  • In one of our hospices

They will work closely with your health care team, schools, and local authorities to make sure everything feels joined up and everyone is supported.

Feedback from parent
“The activity days are nice because nobody stares at you and everybody’s in this similar situation, so it doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable”

“Thank you so much for coming and speaking up for me, it really made a difference, and I feel much better when I had support in the meeting”
