Neonatal support We offer flexible, compassionate care to families with a baby or babies diagnosed during pregnancy or soon after birth with a complex condition. This may mean that they need to be delivered and cared for at a specialist centre and need to stay for some time on a neonatal unit. The neonatal team at Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith are here to support parents and care for their family during this time. We work closely with foetal medicine teams, midwives and neonatal units to provide care that is shaped around them – their needs, wishes and what matters most. How we can help Parents may meet us from around 24 weeks of pregnancy, or after birth if a diagnosis is made later. Whether they are attending appointments, preparing for the birth, or spending time on the neonatal unit, we’re here to make those moments feel more manageable. Things our neonatal team can offer during pregnancy include: Emotional and practical support for parents and their whole family Attending scans and appointments Supporting during delivery Help in creating a birth plan which reflects their wishes If parents have been receiving support from us during pregnancy this support will continue following delivery including: Being alongside them throughout their baby’s entire time on the neonatal unit Creative ways to help them keep connected and bond with their baby Working closely with hospital teams so care feels joined up Helping them think through and plan for different possibilities Sensitive bereavement support, if needed The impact on the baby Our neonatal team work closely with parents and their hospital teams to help keep them and their baby be as comfortable and supported as possible – both before and after birth. Whether the baby requires short-term neonatal care, a longer stay on the unit, or support when they come home, we’ll support them. If the baby is discharged with ongoing or complex needs, we’ll help ensure a smooth transition to the right ongoing support. The impact on the family Our team are here to support parents and their family throughout their journey. We can work with consultants to help create birth plans, support decision-making, and introduce them to other services or people that may be helpful – including our Family Support Workers and Social Workers. Where and when support takes place We can meet parents wherever feels best for them. Most families first meet us at a hospital appointment, but support can also take place: On the neonatal unit Over the phone At their home We work closely with local hospitals and specialist centres both within and outside our area, so family support continues no matter where their care takes place. How to access Neonatal support We offer care and support for babies diagnosed with a complex health issue during pregnancy or after the birth where the outcome for the baby is uncertain. Referrals can be made by hospital consultants, GPs and other healthcare professionals, or by families. Once the referral is made our neonatal team will support families whilst we gather more information about their baby before full hospice services can be accessed. Feedback “What should have been our family’s and our baby’s worst day, ended up being the best and most cherished.” “We cannot thank you enough for what you did for our family… you gave us a chance to be a normal family and for that we will be forever grateful.” Information leaflets for families View/Download View/Download Contact Us If you would like to speak to a member of our team please contact us using the details below.
