Alaw’s grandparents will be among the superstar hikers stepping out on our Llangollen Canal Walk this March.

Anwen Jones and partner John are proudly raising money after seeing first-hand the support we offer to their family.

Anwen, Alaw's grandmother

Anwen said: “The work Tŷ Gobaith do is a lifeline to Alaw’s parents.

“Her respite stays there are the only time they get a break.

“They know their daughter will be safe and have all the nursing, love and medication she needs.”

Alaw was born on Valentine’s Day 2021 - but during her pregnancy her mum, Ffion, developed a very rare condition called HELLP syndrome which resulted in Alaw suffering a catastrophic brain injury due to a lack of oxygen.

Anwen continued: “Tŷ Gobaith is a very loving environment.

“We have visited Alaw there before and it was amazing to see her so chilled and comfortable.

“I’m mostly training for the walk on a treadmill as it’s hills either side of where we live.

“I’ve never walked 10 miles before, but we’re looking forward to it.”

Our fundraiser Nikki has worked closely with Alaw’s family, and shared: “Alaw is adorable and a big part of the Tŷ Gobaith family.

“We love having her here on her respite stays and seeing Ffion and Barry too.

“The canal walk is one of our key events and we’re very grateful to Anwen and John for signing up.

“Every penny raised will help us continue on our mission to reach every local child and family living with a life-threatening condition and help spread smiles and build precious memories.”
