Government’s Children’s Hospice Commitment In England Welcomed We have welcomed today’s announcement of a three-year commitment to providing funding to children’s hospices across England. The UK Government has committed to funding £26 million a year, which will be spread across all of the children’s hospices in England, for the next three years and will rise with inflation. This funding had previously been known as the Children’s Hospice Grant, which would be decided upon each financial year, making it difficult for children’s hospices like Hope House to plan for the future, as the funding was never guaranteed. Our Chief Executive Andy Goldsmith said: “We warmly welcome this announcement and thank the UK Government for listening to the voices of families of seriously ill children and the children’s hospice services they depend on. “This three-year commitment to maintain and increase funding brings much-needed clarity and reassurance, enabling us to plan confidently for the future. “This UK Government funding plays an important role in helping to provide the lifeline care that Hope House children’s hospice offers. This will represent around 5% of the £10 million we need to raise every year, so we are still dependent on the incredible generosity of the local communities who support our work through fundraising and donating. “We also hope this announcement will inspire the Welsh Government to make a similar commitment, ensuring that children on both sides of the Welsh-English border can continue to access high-quality hospice care.” It costs £10 million a year to run our services at Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith, and we receive approximately two months a year in statutory funding, meaning we are still reliant on the generous support of our local community for fundraising and donations.
