Lizzie Quarmby from Bangor-on-Dee turns 40 years old in July and instead of gifts has asked well-wishers to donate to her triple challenge.

Lizzie is planning to tackle a walk on the revered 33-mile Llangollen Round in June, a Liverpool to Chester and back cycle in July, and finally cycle 100 miles in a single day as part of our Cycle 100 challenge in August.

Lizzie said: “I’ve always heard of Hope House. It’s great to know that they are there should anybody I know need them.

“My husband and I had seen signs for the Llangollen Round whilst out walking and one day I just said, right we’re going to do it.

“I also love my cycling and had supported Hope House last year by taking part in their Cycle Challenge. So when I saw a poster for the Liverpool to Chester and back ride in my local bike shop, I decided to be brave add that challenge too.”

Lizzie will complete the trilogy in August when she takes part in the hospices’ Cycle 100 Challenge, which sees entrants ride 100 miles during the month – except Lizzie will attempt to do the distance in a single day.

Speaking of the 33 mile walk, Lizzie said: “I think we can do it in about 14 hours, but I’m hoping to stop at the pub for lunch.

“There’s quite a tight time limit on the Liverpool ride - due to the amount of time they can shut the Mersey Tunnel. But riding through it should be memorable.

“With the final challenge, I’ve done a 100 miles in a day before but it was tough.”

One To Remember

Hope House fundraiser, Bethan Young, said: “What a wonderful and memorable way to mark a special birthday – it will be one to remember for Lizzie.

“We so grateful that she has thought of us and hope her friends, family and colleagues can get behind her with sponsorship to spur her on.

“We’re all wishing her luck and every penny raised will go directly to the care of local children and families living with a life-threatening condition.”
