Volunteer Coren Becomes Assistant Manager Volunteering has led to a new job and a boost in confidence for a Bangor student. Coren Peck, originally from Hastings in Sussex, has been studying Marine Biology in the city since 2022 and began volunteering for us earlier this year at our Bangor shop on High Street. The 22 year-old said: “I started volunteering as something else to do on top of my degree. “I have family friends that have used the services of a children’s hospice before so the connection with this wonderful cause was there. “I was a bit hesitant at first as I’m naturally shy, but now I love it. “My confidence sky rocketed when I started volunteering.” As well as helping on the shop floor and stockroom, Coren, who is a keen DIY fan has also passed her PAT Testing certificate and checks all donated electrical items. Cat our Bangor Store Manager and Coren Store Manager Cat Atherton has been so impressed with Coren that she has recently encouraged her to apply for the vacant role of Assistant Manager. Cat said: “Coren is a wonderful member of the team, and I feel our energy really bounces off one another. “I’m so proud of her. “In June when the vacancy came up, I thought she’d be wonderful for the job and told her about it, asking her to apply. “She was a bit taken aback at first but was more than happy to give it a go and went through the application and interview process. “Volunteering really can lead places and benefit the individual so much as well as good causes.” If you’d like to volunteer at any Hope House Tŷ Gobaith store then click the button below.
